State Wide Convening

At our June convening on Wednesday, the 28th, 4-5 pm, our guest will be Patricia Jimenez-Latham, Ed.D – “Martinez/Yazzie vs. the State of New Mexico: Five Years Later”

On July 18th it will be 5 years since Judge Singleton ruled that the State of New Mexico has violated our NM State Constitution to provide a sufficient education for New Mexico Students (Native American students, English learners, Students with Disabilities and Students At-risk). This session will provide a history of the lawsuit, where we are now and how you can become an advocate moving forward. Your voice matters!

Our guest speaker this month will be Dr. Soña A. Saiz, who led the research team from SEL4NM in investigating Wellness Spaces in New Mexico schools. She will share a peek into what is happening state wide. A longer presentation is scheduled nationwide on SELDAY.

In this one-hour workshop, you’ll learn effective ways to talk about and advocate life skills and primary prevention in critical efforts that promote young people’s learning, safety, and well-being.

You’ll also learn:

  • Different ways to advocate to your lawmakers
  • How to identify opportunities to advocate life skills at the state and federal levels
  • Where to take action to advocate primary prevention and life skills
  • How to raise awareness by sharing with your communities and networks


No advocacy experience is necessary to participate in this workshop.
